M/V SF Trader
SF Trader is one of the fleet of Seaford Shipping Lines which comprises more than twenty ships according to a former crew. The bigger ships of the company are prefixed with SF, like this one, SF Trader. While the smaller ones are name Seaford 1, Seaford 2, Seaford 3 and so on.
The crew of Seaford ships are mostly Ilongos, usually from Negros. It is because the owner is from Bacolod City. Also their main office is in that city. Though they have their own shipyard at Opaw, Mandaue City in Cebu. It is beside the Cabahug Shipyard (see the map below).
One time my crewmate, a former crew of Seaford ships, invited me to step aboard SF Voyager. We were welcomed by the chief officer and they were talking in their Ilongo dialect. I was amazed how clean that ship was. I told the chief mate their ship is like a passenger ship- clean and well-maintained. Then the officer brought us to the pilot house (the bridge). As I passed along the cabins I noticed slippers left outside and when we are about to enter the chief mate and my crewmate removed their slippers. So I just followed what they do. The chief mate told me that they usually are barefoot when inside the bridge even in their official duties. I asked if this is also true to other Seaford ships. There I knew it is the tradition in that shipping lines to be barefoot on the pilot house. Hehehehe what a unique tradition.
